April is a wonderful time of the year when winter is, we hope, well and truly behind us and our thoughts turn to brighter and warmer days. Spring flowers are in full bloom, the Easter holidays are upon us with thoughts of indulging in chocolate eggs, and everyone seems to have more of a spring in their step.
Easter is a lovely time to get creative, either making decorations for your home, or creating some fun eggs with the children to use as part of an Easter egg hunt. You can buy plain paper mache eggs from your local craft shop or online which you can then decorate with paint, pens, decoupage or embellishments. You could also try ceramic painting and decorate your own egg cups, bunnies or chicks, the possibilities are endless.
If you are interested in crafting then why not join new group Cranleigh Creatives. The group was set up for local people to share creative ideas and knowledge, to socialise and learn new skills. We have one social evening a month at the Richard Onslow and our inaugural event was a great success with around 25 people spending the evening sharing their work and ideas, and chatting about all things craft and many other topics too! Our next social evening is at 7pm on Wednesday 26 April and everyone is welcome.
Our idea for the group is to bring together anyone who already loves to craft, and anyone who would like to have a go but doesn’t know where to start. Our members range from crocheters, sewers and needle felters to printers, mosaicers, and card markers and everything in between. And our members are a complete range of skill levels, so everyone is welcome.
As well as our monthly socials we are arranging other events including two spring themed workshops, both making floral wreaths, one with felt flowers run by textile artist Sue Cooper and the other with real flowers and foliage run by local florist Sarah Batchelor. We have exciting plans for more workshops over the coming months.
