Autumn has arrived with its unpredictable weather, and once again first the blazing sun and then the pouring rain, so we were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of the exhibits in every class.
The visitors were welcomed with a stunning view of the exhibits as they came in through the door, and had plenty to admire in all the exhibits. They were able to purchase tickets for the raffle, organized by Val Hutton and Wendy Anne, and have tea and amazing cake which were baked by Anne Dyball and Janet Longstreath. A now established part of the Autumn Show, there was delicious carrot cake, chocolate cake, gluten free lemon cake and sausage rolls.
In the Vegetable and Fruit section were some wonderful displays of tomatoes, onions, beetroot and much more including some really lovely apples, both cooking and dessert. The flowers and Potted plant section had a great variety of flowers displayed. There were incredible dahlias, chrisanthemums, and roses, of which there were many beautifully arranged displays. The Floral Arts were well supported and had a number of artistically and thoughtfully arranged exhibits. The ‘petite” class was superb as were the larger “Harvest Supper” and the “Woodland Walk” exhibits.
On the Homefare table there were lots of lovely cakes made by our members, as well as scones, tarts, quiches and pots of fruit jelly.
Finally there was the presentation of trophies by former chairman Andrew Lock. There was the Norris Cup for the most points in the Vegetable section, won by Richard Munford, and the Geoff Mcquire Shield for the most points in the Flower and Pot Plant section, which was awarded to Jane Gibson. Jane Bishop was successful in winning the Spiers Trophy for the most points in the Floral Arts section, and Marian Heathcote was presented with the Spence Cup for the most points in the Homefare section. Gillian Harriman and Lesley Wood shared the Bainbridge Bowl for the most points in the Fruit section, whilst the Dilley Cup was won by Alan Moody who had some wonderful displays of dahlias, especially his prize winning pompom dahlias.
The Show ended with an auction of the exhibits and the drawing of the raffle.
Many thanks to all those who supported the Show and helped to make it the success that it was. Anyone interested in joining us can contact the Membership Secretary on 01483 273580 or email or visit our website www.ewhursthortsoc.org.uk
