“It was a delight to read in the June magazine an account of John Sharp when he was in training for service behind enemy lines during WWII.
I was aware of his valued and dangerous activities but the photograph of the aircraft and men parachuting reminded me of what John told me about a certain day during his training:
He left the aircraft and parachuted according to instructions. Just before he landed safely, he hit a brick wall. “ouch!”
The officer in charge bellowed at the top of his voice:
“What are you doing there, Sharp!”
John bellowed back “I’m trying to stay alive!”
