It’s not every day that your club gets a visit from some England stars but that’s exactly what happened at Blackheath Cricket Club.
It was a moment to cherish for members young and old as Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer arrived at the club for a promotional photo shoot.
To put it into context for people who don’t follow cricket, Broad is statistically the world’s 5th best bowler of all time and Archer was a vital part of the England side that won the Cricket World Cup in 2019.
Although they were there mainly for the photo shoot, they very kindly agreed to meet a few lucky junior club members. Having waited patiently in the car park, being careful to stay out of shot until things had
finished in the cricket pavilion, the children and their parents were finally rewarded when Stuart and Jofra came out to say hello, sign kit and take pictures.
Although there were some initial nerves, each of the kids were thrilled to meet the players and had a brilliant time. A huge inspiration to so many young cricketers around the country and the world, it was an amazing experience for the young players to meet two of their idols.
Club chairman Nick Harrison thanked the players for coming, to which Stuart Broad said in response, “Thank you for having us, it’s a lovely ground”. A ground given a stamp of approval by one of England’s greatest ever players, you can be sure the members of Blackheath CC won’t let anyone forget that any time soon!
