On 13 August, Cranleigh Rotarians Gill Ford and Andy Kolmar attended the very enjoyable gala concert on the final evening of Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), which was given by the young people who had attended the course.
Cranleigh Rotary sponsored Marcus Gordon and Bella Matthews, at a cost of £400 per head, to attend this prestigious, week-long event, where they learned leadership and team-building skills. Both of them did well on this challenging course, which took place at High Ashurst outdoor activity centre from 8 to 13 August. Each was rewarded with an award by their peers for the way they responded to the challenges they were set.
Marcus’ mother said, “He has come back with many lovely stories and has definitely grown in confidence. He said that he feels different in a good way.”
Bella said, “I really enjoyed RYLA and I met lots of new friends that I have probably got for life.”

Cranleigh Rotary plans to sponsor two more young people, aged 15 to 17 years, to attend next year’s course, which will once again be held during the summer vacation and last for six days.
