The winning Intermediate Team from Glebelands School
The local round of this year’s Rotary Youth Speaks competition was a clean sweep for Glebelands School in Cranleigh.
The first round was held on Wednesday, 23rd January. Five teams entered at Intermediate Level, comprising three from Glebelands and two from Broadwater School, Godalming. At Senior Level, there was a team each from Glebelands, Rodborough and Broadwater Schools.
Following an interesting series of presentations, with topics including social media, veganism and music, teams from Glebelands were declared worthy winners in both categories.
The winning teams went on to the District semi-finals: the Intermediate Level event was hosted by Cranleigh Rotary on Saturday, 9th February, and the Senior Level event was scheduled to take place at Haywards Heath on Saturday, 23rd February.
The Youth Speaks competition is part of Cranleigh Rotary’s ongoing commitment to support local schools and youth activities. The main beneficiary of the Club’s Christmas Street Collection was Cranleigh Scouts, with a donation of more than £1,000. Another £1,200 was raised from the Santa Dash to provide dictionaries and library books to local schools.
Profits from the Rotary Quiz on 1 March will go towards providing shirts for the Cranleigh Cricket Club’s Under-14 Girls team.
