Cranleigh Under 11’s Football Team win the Championship

So far, it has turned out to be a very special season For Cranleigh U11s as they are now in the top division of their age group. Due to the coaching skills of Andrew Lee and Ian Barter, they have become this season’s invincibles.

The season finale came down to the last two games of the league season, where Cranleigh faced their rivals – Chesworth Rovers Youth. The first of the two games took place at Snoxhall fields, with the match heading towards a 3-3 draw before Cranleigh’s top goal scorer curled in a free kick from 25 yards and into the top corner. That impressive goal, coupled with some fantastic goalkeeping from Cranleigh’s number 1, ensured all 3 points to the home team.

The last game of the season, the U11s again faced Chesworth Youth Rovers, requiring a win or a draw to win the league title in their own right, as a defeat would’ve meant a play off between the two sides – or shared league winners. It was a tough fought match, with Cranleigh taking an early lead from their left-sided dynamic midfielder. 0-1 soon become 1-1 before Cranleigh again took the lead with 20 minutes to play. However, Chesworth fought back – making it 2-2 with 10 minutes to play. The match could’ve gone either way, and in the dying minutes, a superb goal line clearance from Cranleigh’s goalkeeper ensured the match finished 2-2 -with Cranleigh Youth U11s winning the championship in their first competitive season.

Congratulations to all involved, in particular the coaches previously mentioned – sometimes it can be a thankless task! Well done to everyone.

Cranleigh Youth U11s play their home games at Snoxhall fields on Saturday mornings, and any support is very much appreciated and welcome if you’d like to come and cheer them on.
