In January 1964 a little known rally driver from Belfast was launched to overnight stardom by winning the Monte Carlo rally in a Mini Cooper. Paddy Hopkirk and the Mini that he drove to that famous victory featured on the following weekend’s “Sunday Night at the London Palladium” TV show with Bruce Forsythe, and was seen by an estimated 9 million people.
The Mini’s win was celebrated around the world, and Paddy even received a congratulatory telegram from the Beatles. He went on to much more rally and racing success, maintained a strong Mini connection, and to this day remains a consultant to the company.
We are delighted that the legendary Paddy Hopkirk has agreed to speak to Brooklands Members about his fascinating life and career.
