Ewhurst Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show was held on Saturday 10th September in the Village Hall.
After a summer of exceptionally difficult weather for the gardening community the number of entries was a little down on last year’s total. However the show was well attended and we had a lovely display of flowers and vegetables and an impressive number of entries in the pot plants classes. The homefare classes were very well supported with a number of delightful cakes, scones and preserves on display.
The Norris Cup for the most points in the Fruit and Vegetable classes, was won by Jeff Jones from Peaslake. Jeff also won the Dilley Cup for the best exhibit in the Flower and Pot plant section.
Richard Munford, a Ewhurst resident, won the Geoff Mcquire Shield for the most points in the Flower and Pot Plant section.
Dawn Gains, also resident in Ewhurst, won the Spiers Trophy for her beautiful entry of “Teatime”, a petite exhibit in a teacup to include flowers and berries. An exceptionally creative display.
Marian Heathcote was awarded the Spence Cup for the most points in the Homefare classes for her delicious entries.
The children’s classes also had some lovely entries in the pre-school and 8 years and under age groups, including entries of an exceedingly high standard in the older children’s classes.
Our president Richard Tabor held a minutes silence for the Queen before presenting the trophies to the winners and holding an auction of the fruit and vegetables from the entries in the Show, donated by the generous entrants.
Many thanks go to all those who helped to make the Show such a success and anyone who would like to join our thriving society would be warmly welcome.
