Glebelands School – Year 9 Master Chef Competition

The summer  term saw Glebelands School host the 2017 Master Chef Competition on Tuesday 6th June. Year 9 were asked to work in teams of 2 and given the brief; ‘A British inspired, three course menu for guests attending the Queen’s Birthday at Buckingham  Palace’.  All 7 teams selected to take part had to produce their own menu in 2 hours. The menus served ranged from Lemon Posset; Smoked Fish Cake; Victoria Sponge with Eton Mess filling; Sausages and Mash in a giant Yorkshire Pudding; Mixed Herb Crown of Roast Chicken; Lancashire Hotpot and savoury mini scones, to name a few.

This year our judges were from local Cranleigh businesses; Ruby & Kind and Cook, who had the extremely hard decision of judging the finalists. The dishes served by all participants were outstanding.  In third place; Victoria Standing and Mary Halliday, who made  a delicious  Seaside  themed  3 course  meal. The  runner  up  prize  went  to Jack  Howells-Davies and Kirstie Grey, who served up a tasty baked Scotch Egg  starter.  The  overall  winning  team  were  Dolly Knott and Jasmine Ayres, who wowed judges with an amazing starter of Smoked Fish Cakes with mustard dip, a main of  Pork and Colcannon with Fig sauce and for dessert home grown rhubarb and lemon pot.

Well done to all participants and the winning team for their delicious winning menu.
